Man United have eyes on Declan Rice, with the midfielder a main target going into 2022.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad is starting to take shape nicely. The Baby Faced Assassin is building a team that can compete on all fronts, slowly but surely.
If there’s one area that still needs work, it’s that holding-midfield role. Manchester United probably searched far and wide to fill that void this summer, though sadly, there probably wasn’t enough money to push a move over the line.
Amongst the names linked was Declan Rice. The Englishman had an excellent summer with the Three Lions at EURO 2020, while his stock continues to rise.
Now, according to The Independent, United have made the 22-year-old their top transfer priority for the summer of 2022.
Right now, Rice is feeling frustrated due to the high valuation placed on his head by West Ham United. Apparently, the London outfit wanted around £100m to let their prized asset go.
No doubt United want lightning to strike twice in one regard. Don’t forget they turned down paying over the odds to sign Jadon Sancho for over £100m, then, a year later, they managed to snap him up for 25% less.
I like Rice, I think he’s an excellent player who is continuing to improve. However, I’m not wholly convinced he’s a massive upgrade on Scott McTominay. Yes, he’s probably slightly better, but with the fees mentioned, I’m convinced United should look elsewhere and move for someone a little bit cheaper.
Why not take a look at Wilfred Ndidi, or Yves Bissouma. Both come without the English premium. Both would be significantly cheaper. Both have played in the Premier League.
Sure, I’d be happy if United signed Rice, I just think there are potentially players out there who are better suited.
