Manchester United Football Club desperately need a new striker, that much is obvious to anyone who has paid any attention to the Red Devils’ toothless front-line this term.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is probably regretting his decision to let Romelu Lukaku leave without replacement, though he’ll get the opportunity to rectify that error when January rolls around.

According to Jonathan Shrager, who is well connected when it comes to United stories, one man the Reds have identified is Moussa Dembele.

Shrager says that United will ‘probably’ make a bid for the 23-year-old in the January window, while the 20-time Premier League champions made contact about Dembele as recently as Tuesday.

The Frenchman has scored goals wherever he has been. Fulham, Celtic and now Lyon. Now Dembele is seemingly viewed as someone who is now ready to make another step up.

Perhaps now is the perfect time to make a move for the forward, too, as Lyon are going through a change-in-manager right now.

For what it’s worth, I think Dembele would immediately be a considerable upgrade on Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial. Although I love both, neither are the type of player who is going to guarantee you 20+ goals a season. Dembele could be that man, although I’d imagine competition for his signature could well be fierce.
