Man United make Gianluca Mancini enquiry: report

Man United have apparently added Gianluca Mancini to their list of defensive transfer targets.

Manchester United Football Club look almost certain to make a move for a centre-half this summer. Now, it’s all about working out which one they want.

From Raphael Varane to Ben White, the Old Trafford club are seemingly being linked with every centre-half all across Europe. Now, a new name has been thrown into the ring; Gianluca Mancini.

The story comes from the usually reliable Jonathan Shrager, who kept it simple in a short-but-sweet tweet. Apparently, United enquired about the talented 24-year-old ‘a few weeks ago’, as the Reds continue their search for a new central defender.

Yes, I know what you’re asking, Mancini is the son of ex-Manchester City manager Roberto – and it’s worth noting that this boy can play. He’s been a real asset for AS Roma this term, in both boxes I’ll add, with the centre-back having scored five goals this season.

Check out Jonathan Shrager’s tweet on the news here:

I don’t know why but I’ve always been a fan of defenders coming from Serie A. I guess it’s because that league always has had a reputation for building out from the back.

Mancini is a player who has continually improved over the last decade and although this would be an under-the-radar signing, it’s one I’m all for.

The Italian is tall at 6’4, is a great passer and, most importantly, he’s got a little bit of pace to him which would cover Harry Maguire’s only flaw. Now I’m not saying he’s Usain Bolt out there, but Mancini has enough speed to get the job done.

In terms of price, who knows? But you can bet your bottom dollar he’d probably be cheaper than someone like the aforementioned Ben White due to the Premier League premium placed on the Englishman’s head…
