Man United make significant progress on Rashford contract: report

Understandably, several Manchester United players have had reservations about signing new deals at Old Trafford.

The club has been in a downward spiral over the last few years, with their top players unwilling to commit. Amongst those is Marcus Rashford, and with just one year left on his Reds deal, time is running out.

Thankfully, according to reliable BBC journalist Simon Stone, United have made significant progress on the 21-year-old star’s new deal, and there is now confidence that an agreement will be reached.

Understandably, Rashford will get a big wage increase to remain at United, although it may not be as big as the £350,000-a-week that has been reported.

When it comes to contracts, United have created themselves a huge problem. When you hand massive wages to average players like Alexis Sanchez, every other member of the squad is well within their rights to demand a pay-packet reflective to the Chilean’s.

Even if Rashford is earning £250,000-a-week, that’s way too much, but the club have set a bad precedent by overpaying players. I understand that United may want to curb that overspending, hence why they let Ander Herrera leave for free, but the Reds were always going to pay a fan-favourite like Rashford whatever he wants.
