Man United are pushing hard to try and sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton.
You get the impression that Manchester United are somewhat keen to sign a new centre-half. Matthijs de Ligt has been somewhat heavily linked with a Reds transfer over the last 24 hours.
Now, it’s Jarrad Branthwaite’s turn. According to the Daily Mail, United, along with Tottenham Hotspur, are making a ‘concerted effort’ to sign the 21-year-old.
The Old Trafford club, and Spurs, are said to be pushing ‘more than most’ for the signing, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid all credited with an interest in the Englishman.
It’s believed United are trying to bring in two young centre-backs over the summer, as INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe get their chance to improve Ten Hag’s side for the first time.
Homegrown players are believed to be a ‘key focus’, while Branthwaite, a left-sided centre-back, appeals to Ten Hag as he looks to find better balance across the back four.
Other names under consideration include Antonio Silva, Jean-Clair Todibo and Leny Yoro, though BRanthwaite definitely leads the pack at this stage.
Honestly, I’d be delighted if Branthwaite was signed. He looks like the tailor-made United player. A young, hungry centre-back who is only improving at this point in his career.
Whether Everton will sell is an entirely different question. They’re trying to build something at Goodson Park as they look to secure their Premier League status. Branthwaite is a key player in their team and they’d much prefer to keep ahold of him.
A lot could depend on Everton’s Premier League survival. If they drop into the Championship, I do not see one of their better players wanting to stick around.
