Man United man suffers ligament damage, set for spell on sidelines

Manchester United just cannot catch a break at the moment, can they?

Yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea was marred by injuries, with both Eric Bailly and Marcus Rashford picking up knocks. The former was immediately ruled out for the season by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, although he didn’t seem to be too concerned about the Ivorian.

Today, though, United have given us another update, this time, it’s a disheartening one. They say that Bailly has suffered a medial ligament injury and he’ll now be unavailable for the Ivory Coast during their African Cup of Nations tournament over the summer.

The AFCON tournament was due to run until mid-July, meaning Bailly will face at least two months out of action. Not only does that completely end his summer break, but it also casts doubts on his availability for the start of next season.

Bailly just cannot catch a break at the moment, can he? At the time it looked like he was in agony and now the severity of the issue has been confirmed, we can see why.

It’s a shame because I still feel as though he’s our best centre-half on paper. He’s been starved of opportunities this campaign and to end it like this must be absolutely heartbreaking.

Hopefully, he can remain mentally tough, work hard on his rehabilitation and come back feeling strong, but the club must ensure they don’t rush him back as that’ll only make things worse.
