The Old Trafford club have narrowed their manager search down to two names.
We’ve been under Ralf Rangnick’s tutelage for a few months now, with the German seemingly not doing anywhere near enough to be considered for the role on a permanent basis.
That’s fine. That was always the most likely outcome, with Rangnick nothing but a stopgap until the end of the current campaign.
As we approach what is a huge summer for the Old Trafford club, we’re seeing United linked with pretty much every manager under the sun. However, there are two names that seem to stand out; Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag.
Now, our friends over at Stretty News have ran an exclusive in regards to United’s next hire. They believe their search is down to two candidates. Yep, you guessed it correctly, Pochettino and Ten Hag.
Apparently, a ‘close senior club source’ has told SN that United are set for talks with Ten Hag representatives later this week in London, while a total agreement with either boss is yet to be reached. As things stand, Ten Hag is the man ‘most likely’ to be in charge next season.
If this was one year ago, I’d bet you good money that Pochettino would have been the clear frontrunner. However, his average work at PSG coupled with Ten Hag‘s emergence at Ajax has meant that the Dutchman is now the fir fan favourite.
I’ll be honest with you, I don’t think there’s a single manager out there that can turn our future around – unless things change at board level.
What I will say is that Ten Hag feels like more of a gamble, whereas Pochettino is the safer bet due to his Premier League experience with Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton.
I’d be happy with either hire, but whoever United appoint will need time to mould this squad into one that fits their style of play.
