Manchester United Football Club are in the midst of a real squad overhaul under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Credit where it’s due, the Baby Faced Assassin has done some brilliant work at clearing out the dead-wood and turning this squad into one with an incredibly bright future.
However, as new players are signed while others come through the academy, the inevitability is that some players will have to leave. Over the weekend, The Sunday Express named four attackers United could lose as the Solskjaer overhaul continues…
First up we have the obvious one; Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean has spent this term on loan at Inter Milan, as his Old Trafford nightmare continues. Understandably, United want him off the wage bill though you get the feeling that could be easier said than done.
Next up we have Angel Gomes, who is a free agent this summer and hasn’t yet put pen to paper on a new deal. The Englishman is supremely talented, though the Red Devils shouldn’t be bullied into overpaying for anyone. If he wants to leave, so be it.
Third is Jesse Lingard. It’s always sad to see academy graduates move on, particularly those who have played their part in success in the past. However, you’re only as good as your last season and recently, the Warrington-born-winger just hasn’t been good enough.
Last but not least is the talented Ayodeji Sotona, who is yet to sign professional terms after ‘reportedly questioning the club’s direction’. Apparently, he’s questioning whether United is the right place for him to continue his development so it seems inevitable he’ll be off at the first possible opportunity.
All these guys are viable options as potential departures. I’d expect at least a couple will leave permanently. However, the good news is that their exits will be making room for potential new signings. Jadon Sancho or Jack Grealish anyone…?
