Manchester United have a job on their hands in regards to keeping ahold of players with winding down contracts. Funnily enough, it’s the Red Devils’ Spanish contingent who’re yet to sign.
The club recently activated a twelve-month extension clause in David de Gea’s contract, whereas both Juan Mata and Ander Herrera have deals that expire this summer.
Now, in a report from the Mirror on Sunday, it is being claimed that Herrera is holding out for better terms after an approach from Paris Saint-Germain, who are looking to sign the 28-year-old.
Herrera, who currently earns £130,000-a-week at Old Trafford, is trying to get himself a weekly wage worth around £200,000-a-week, whereas United are only offering £170,000-a-week at the moment.
The article adds that United are ‘refusing to buckle’ under Herrera’s wage demands, but it is concerning given the fact that we’re now only a couple of months away from the summer.
You’d like to think that in the end, the parties will come to some sort of mutual agreement because you get the feeling that Herrera absolutely loves playing for United.
He has been one of our better performers over the last few months so I think we’d all want him to stay, particularly as United already have several other areas of the field that need working on.
But, the fact that our top players are considering moves elsewhere is telling. We need to start giving them a reason to want to stay.
