Left-back links to Man United are only growing, with Nicolas Tagliafico being the latest name to be rumoured with an Old Trafford switch.
First Sergio Reguilon, then Alex Telles. Now, it’s the turn of Nicolas Tagliafico, who currently plies his trade for Ajax in the Eredivisie.
The story comes in the form of an exclusive from The Sun. They state that United are ‘monitoring’ the 28-year-old left-back Tagliafico.
Apparently, negotiations between United and Porto are ‘ongoing’ in regards to the aforementioned Telles. However, Tagliafico has emerged as an alternative option.
What’s interesting is that Tagliafico is free to leave Ajax for around £23million, which should make him easily obtainable should United like the Argentine enough.
Ole not convinced by left-back options
The one thing we do know as fact is that United are looking at signing a left-back. Tagliafico is the third player in that position to be linked with a Reds switch over the last fortnight. I don’t doubt that the error made by Luke Shaw against Crystal Palace only furthered United’s interest in adding a new left-sided defender.
Tagliafico has been pretty good for Ajax. However, I’m not sure I see him as a regular starter at a top club. Instead, he’d rotate in and out of the side with the aforementioned Shaw. What that’d mean for Brandon Williams, I’m not sure…
If United want a proper first-choice left-back, Telles is the man. Tagliafico would be the cheaper option for a reason. Plus, he’s a year older. Right now, I still feel there are more pressing holes within this squad. I look at centre-half and right-wing as major needs, maybe even a back-up striker. I do see why United are exploring the left-back position, too, mind…
