Man United have eyes on Brentford attacking midfielder, Christian Eriksen…
Ralf Rangnick is highly unlikely to be given a contract extension in a managerial role at Manchester United – but he will stay on in some sort of consultancy capacity.
You’d like to think that the German will have a hand in who the new manager is, while also helping the club on the transfer front, too. After all, he’s worked with this squad day-in-day-out for several months now.
Although there are many areas that need work, I’d argue central midfield is the biggest issue. That’s even before you consider Paul Pogba’s imminent exit.
Well, United are no doubt doing their homework behinds the scenes and apparently, that’s led the Red Devils to Christian Eriksen’s doorstep…
The story comes from the Daily Mail, who believe United, along with Tottenham, are weighing up a move for the 30-year-old – who is a potential free agent this summer. Both clubs are ‘monitoring him closely’ at this stage.
Eriksen, who had a cardiac arrest at last years World Cup, signed a short-term deal with Brentford in order to prove himself to the footballing world. Well, it’s fair to say he’s done exactly that, scoring for both club and country over the last week.
He is available for nothing this summer, assuming any potential club could prise him away from Brentford – where he’s understandably formed some emotional bonds following the Bees taking a chance on the Dane.
I fully appreciate the fight, desire and drive Eriksen has. Particularly to come back after something so scary happened to him. However, he’d likely have to settle for a place on the bench in most matches – being used as a rotational option who can come in and out of the side when required. That’s because he likes to operate in a similar position to Bruno Fernandes.
For me, this is more of a sentimental move rather than a tactical one. I also reckon it’d be tough to beat out interest from Tottenham Hotspur. Eriksen has an emotional connection with the North London club, while they also have a better chance at making it into next season’s Champions League as things stand.
