Manchester United have moved in a completely different direction under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the Baby Faced Assassin showing a tendency to sign young players.
It’s a mantra that has served the Red Devils well over the years, so why not continue with that mould? Today, a new name has been thrown into the ring, with the scoop coming from the Daily Mail.
In a transfer story, they’re claiming that Crystal Palace are interested in signing Burnley youngster, Dwight McNeil.
However, the article also claims that United are monitoring the 20-year-old starlet – who has already amassed over 50 Premier League appearances for Burnley.
The Daily Mail stick a £30m price-tag on McNeil, with the post unsure whether a top six club like United would firm up their interest with an official bid. They believe that could play into Crystal Palace’s hands, who still haven’t spent the Aaron Wan-Bissaka money they earned from United last summer.
McNeil is predominantly a left-sided player, who prefers to be deployed further forward. My immediate thought is that is now Marcus Rashford’s position, so McNeil would have to settle for a role as a rotational option.
However, he does fit the mould. This is a young man who is only going to improve, while clubs, with respect, like Palace, can’t offer European football. If things go our way, the Reds could be playing in the Champions League next term. That has to be a huge factor for any young player trying to make their name.
