With Antonio Valencia leaving this summer, while Matteo Darmian continues to be given the cold-shoulder and Ashley Young not getting any younger, Manchester United desperately need a new right-back.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to dip his toes into the transfer market unless he’s prepared to give Diogo Dalot a real chance at making that spot in the team his own. Today, the Daily Mail have thrown a new name into the ring.
They say that the Red Devils are ‘monitoring’ Kieran Trippier’s future, with the 28-year-old set to be available for around £30million.
Apparently, Trippier is already preparing for a scenario in which he leaves White Hart Lane – which is understandable given how poor his domestic season was.
You have to remember that Trippier would be a massive upgrade on what we have, though, and it’s easy to forget just how brilliant he was at the World Cup just last summer.
I know it’s an unpopular opinion but I’d take him at United in a heartbeat. The right-back is an excellent crosser of the ball which is something we need, and if you’re asking me if I’d prefer Trippier or Young running down that right-hand side next season, well it’s a no-brainer…
