Man United are weighing up a potential move to sign Lyon striker, Moussa Dembele.
There can be no doubt that finding a new manager is atop the Manchester United wish list going into this summer.
However, this squad still needs work – despite the massive amount of money that has been spent on new players…
Surprisingly, many of our current struggles stem from the lack of quality coming from our strikers. With Anthony Martial away on loan and a certain number 11 no longer with us, we’re looking thin in that area of the field.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani are ageing. We definitely need to get younger (and deeper) at that position. That’s where Lyon striker, Moussa Dembele, comes in.
The story comes from the Daily Mail, who state that United are ‘monitoring’ the 25-year-old striker.
The report claims that United look ‘certain’ to make changes to their forward line, with Frenchman Dembele identified as a possible candidate.
As things stand, a winding down contract for Dembele at Lyon could play into United’s hands. The forward has a deal that expires in 2023, meaning he could cost just £25million this summer, so the Ligue 1 side don’t lose Dembele for free if he refuses to sign new terms.
Dembele has played on these shores before during a spell with Fulham, while he’s shown an ability to go toe-to-toe with the best in the Champions League over the last few years.
There’s no doubt that Dembele would be somewhat of a gamble. Moving from Lyon to United is a huge leap up in class and perhaps he would need some time to settle in. However, with better quality around him, I don’t doubt that Dembele’s goalscoring prowess would only improve.
