Manchester United Football Club have been constantly linked with a move for Jadon Sancho this summer. However, with COVID-19 seemingly not planning on going away anytime soon, perhaps spending such a huge amount of money isn’t the wise option.
It seems United are at least exploring other options at the very least, which does feel like good business sense although Sancho remains the number one option.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United have found themselves an alternative in the form of Rabbi Matondo.
The Welsh winger currently plies his trade for Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga, having played in thirteen games across all competitions this season.
United are ‘monitoring’ the 19-year-old as a Sancho back-up target, while the Reds have already scouted the player who’d be a more cost-efficient option in the current climate.
Again, this seems very on-brand for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He has shown a preference towards signing young, preferably British players. Matondo fits that bill.
He’s actually more like Sancho than you think, having also started his career at Manchester City like the Englishman Sancho who is currently plying his trade with Borussia Dortmund.
What’s also interesting is that Schalke are expected to sell first-team players as they look to make up lost revenue from the global pandemic, so perhaps United could grab themselves a bargain…
