Man United monitoring Rafael Leao

Man United are monitoring AC Milan striker, Rafael Leao.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are definitely a side on the up. Though, as we all expected, there were going to be bumps in the road.

The 0-0 draw at home to Newcastle United once again highlighted the lack of goal-scoring within this squad. The Red Devils are just too inconsistent in that area of the field to compete on a regular basis.

Like clockwork, Manchester United are now being linked with new strikers. It does make sense, given Cristiano Ronaldo’s desire to leave coupled with consistent injuries to Anthony Martial.

Enter, Rafael Leao.

It’s The Mirror with the claim. They state that United are ‘monitoring’ the 23-year-old striker, who currently plies his trade for Serie A club, AC Milan.

Apparently, Ten Hag is said to be a ‘big admirer’ of the player, who the Reds have sent scouts to watch in action.

Leao, who is being compared to Kylian Mbappe and Thierry Henry, is also attracting interest from both Manchester City and Chelsea. In terms of valuation, Milan want £60million.

OTF’s verdict

Leao’s current contract is winding down. The player is also refusing to sign a new deal as things stand. This could be the time to strike and make a move for the Portuguese forward – though the competition will be fierce.

The one problem for United is that there may not be big money available in January after Ten Hag was given over £200m during the summer transfer window. That could have been United’s best opportunity to get some sort of jumpstart on the rest of the competition.

If United are forced to wait until next summer, I just don’t see how Leao ends up at Old Trafford if the likes of City and Chelsea are serious about their interest.
