Man United are looking at Rangers full-back, James Tavernier, as a possible transfer target.
Last summer, a Manchester United move for Alex Telles paid massive dividends. It forced Luke Shaw to take his game to another level, with the Englishman now amongst the best left-backs in the country.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping lightning strikes twice as the United boss looks to add another right-back who can push Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Kieran Trippier has been the name most-linked, though a new face has been throw into the mix; James Tavernier.
The story comes from 90min.com, who stated that United are monitoring the Rangers right-back. Apparently, the 29-year-old is emerging as a viable transfer alternative for United, with a Trippier deal seemingly up in the air.
The Reds are one of four Premier League clubs who are said to be ‘impressed’ with Tavernier, who helped Rangers to their first Scottish top-flight title in a decade.
Tavernier scored 19 goals across all competitions last term, ten of which came from the penalty spot. However, his overall influence during his six-year spell at Rangers cannot be ignored. He’s now club captain and amongst the best players in the division.
He did struggle during a stint with Newcastle United before moving to Rangers back in 2015, which does concern me a little bit. Perhaps the SPL is his level? Perhaps he just wasn’t ready?
The good news is that Tavernier wouldn’t be tasked with starting every single game if United did make a move for him. He’d be coming in as a backup first and foremost, though he does offer something completely different to Wan-Bissaka.
As of right now, it just seems like United are putting the feelers out – rather than being ready to make an official bid for Tavernier.
