Man United have eyes on Bayern Munich midfielder, Ryan Gravenberch.
This week, Manchester United have been heavily linked with signing a midfielder. Several names have been mentioned in the same breath as the club. Those claims are set to continue.
The latest claim comes from Foot Mercato (in French). They link United with a move for Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch.
According to the story, United are ‘monitoring’ the emerging 20-year-old midfielder, though they’ll face stiff competition. Both Arsenal and Liverpool are also in the same situation with eyes on Gravenberch.
The Dutchman, who is a product of the famous Ajax academy, moved to Bavaria just last summer. He’s featured in 26 games, scoring just once.
Gravenberch’s issue is that he’s rarely been a starter, totalling just 700 minutes played in 2022/23. The fact that clubs are sniffing around could suggest unhappiness for the young man, who is looking for regular playing time to further his career.
For United, there is a need to bring in a younger midfielder or two. Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are brilliant, though neither will be around forever. Replacing them in the long-term is not going to be easy – though it’s better to do so sooner rather than later.
Gravenberch is immensely talented. He’d make any dressing room better. However, I fear he’d have the same problem here in Manchester. I do not envisage him walking through the door and playing every single week – in the short-term at the very least.
There could also be a problem in convincing Gravenberch to join. Obviously, Arsenal are looking good to win the league right now so it may be tough to beat out competition from them. I guess it all depends on whether Ten Hag can convince him a reunion is in the player’s best interests.
