Man United monitoring Sergio Reguilon, amid full-back uncertainty: report

Man United are monitoring Real Madrid left-back, Sergio Reguilon.

Just yesterday, we covered a claim from Spain, namely AS, who claimed that the Red Devils had already tabled an offer for the left-back.

Well, the Manchester Evening News seem to view it a little differently. They claim that United are ‘monitoring’ the 23-year-old amid uncertainty in their full-back position.

Reguilon, who impressed last season while on loan at Sevilla, has been ‘tracked by United’s recruitment department’, headed by chief technical scout, Mick Court.

Going back to the report from AS, Reguilon wants to play for Real Madrid. However, he’s currently behind both Ferland Mendy and Marcelo in the pecking order. To me, that suggests an exit is more than viable.

United should make their move

If Reguilon were to be available, United simply have to be at the front of the queue. The Spaniard represents a genuine upgrade on our starting line-up, at what would be a relatively reasonable fee (around £25m).

Yes, it’d be unfair on Luke Shaw or Brandon Williams, but that’s football. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to deliver titles to this club and Reguilon is the sort of left-back who can make a genuinely positive impact on both sides of the ball.

Let’s not forget United’s interest in signing a left-back is nothing new. Ben Chilwell was rumoured to be on the radar on more than one occasion before his move to Chelsea. Plus, having to play Timothy Fosu-Mensah in that slot towards the season’s end has probably left Solskjaer concerned. The gaffer doesn’t seem completely sold on Diogo Dalot, either.

Again, as fans, we have to be encouraged with the sort of names we’re being linked with. Like Van de Beek, Reguilon would be an incredibly-smart signing.
