Man United have eyes on Sporting CP midfielder, Morten Hjulmand.
Manchester United’s midfield has changed significantly already this season, with Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount coming into the fold. However, further development in that area is needed.
Several names are being linked with filling that void for the Red Devils, with Morten Hjulmand among them. The Dane currently plies his trade for Sporting CP over in Portugal.
Now, Portuguese media outlet Record, via The Metro, have provided an update on the Reds’ interest in Hjulmand.
They state that United are ‘paying close attention’ to the 24-year-old’s evolution, with the Reds closely monitoring the midfielder who has enjoyed an excellent campaign.
The Reds will face competition for Hjulmand’s signature, with FC Barcelona also showing an interest in the player.
Sporting are aware of the growing interest in the Dane as they look to fend off interest in one of their prized assets.
United and Sporting have a good working relationship after recent transfer dealings between the two clubs, so that could work into the Reds’ favour. However, Hjulmand has only recently signed contract with the Portuguese side so he’s under terms until 2028.
This feels like an astute signing if United could somehow pull it off. Casemiro is ageing and could well leave, while Sofyan Amrabat will not be kept on after an unsuccessful loan move at Old Trafford. Hjulmand could provide some consistency in the defensive midfield area of the field, though he would cost a pretty penny.
In terms of beating out competition from Barca, United have a financial edge, whereas the Catalonian club have a better chance at trophies.
