Man United are more probable to move for Moises Caicedo over Frenkie de Jong when the transfer window reopens.
Manchester United Football Club spent the summer chasing a move to sign Frenkie de Jong from FC Barcelona. That pursuit obviously ended up unsuccessful.
As a result, the Red Devils looked elsewhere. A move for Moises Caicdeo was talked up at one point. Though in the end, Erik ten Hag brought in Casemiro.
From a fans’ standpoint, I still feel like United are one body light in such a key area of the pitch. It’s an area you can imagine the Dutch manager delving into again either in January or next summer.
Well, journalist Dean Jones still believes the Reds have a shot at landing Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion.
He believes United are actually ‘more likely’ to make a move for the 20-year-old midfielder, instead of the aforementioned De Jong.
Check out what Dean Jones had to say in full here:
“Frenkie De Jong, obviously, was the player we thought would be coming in initially, but it seems firmly out of sight at the moment.” Jones told Give Me Sport.
“He looks so happy at Barcelona; things are going well for him there. So, at this point, maybe you can say Caicedo’s at least more likely than Frenkie De Jong.”
As Jones states, a move for De Jong now looks infinitely less likely to happen than it originally did. He seems content at FC Barcelona, though he is spending plenty of time sat on their bench. United have now moved on, not wanting to chase the Dutch midfielder, who may well end up rejecting the Theatre of Dreams again.
Caicedo is a younger option, who represents a solid fit for the Ten Hag style of play. He’s someone who is more than likely viewed as a replacement for Casemiro in a few years, rather than someone who can come in and start game-in-game-out from day one.
The problem United will have is when it comes to negotiating with Brighton. The Seagulls are notoriously firm when it comes to parting with their prized assets. Pay their asking price or move along. It really is that simple.
The longer you leave this one, the more expensive Caicedo’s signature becomes.
