Man United closing in on Federico Chiesa move in a deal worth £50m+

Manchester United Football Club have been pretty good recently, displaying their immense fire-power in every game since lockdown ended. However, further signings are still needed. Enter, Federico Chiesa.

Back in June, we covered a story in which it was claimed that Manchester United were ‘very close’ to meeting Fiorentina’s demands for Chiesa. Well, after a month of silence, we’ve now been given a further update on the Italian’s future.

The story comes from Corriere Fiorentino (Friday print edition), who cover Fiorentina exclusively. The translation comes from the Daily Mail.

It is being claimed that a deal to sign the 22-year-old is ‘close to being agreed’ by United, though there are still some doubts on Chiesa’s side about a move to the Premier League…

If the Italian was to overcome the uncertainty, a deal for Chiesa would likely cost £50-60m. For a player with immense talent and plenty of room for improvement, that seems pretty reasonable even with money being tight due to COVID-19.

Federico Chiesa to Man United

Again, this is another link to a right-winger which is seemingly an area Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to prioritise. Again, Jadon Sancho’s name is mentioned by the Daily Mail as the top-target, though whether he’s going to be available due to money constraints is starting to become a real question.

Chiesa certainly wouldn’t be a bad alternative. This is a young man who is versatile and still learning his trade. He’d also fit into the Solskjaer ‘plan’ as he looks to build a team to compete for a decade rather than a season or two.

My problem is on Chiesa’s side. If there are any doubts about making the move from his point of view, I’d hope United have the sense to err on the side of caution and look elsewhere rather than overpaying.

United sure seem keen on this ever-improving Italian, though. I guess until Solskjaer gets a transfer wrong, we have every reason to back him 100%.

What do you reckon, would Federico Chiesa be a good signing? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
