Man United move for Maguire will ‘drag on’ but transfer ‘likely to happen’ :report

We’re now six days away from the close of play in the summer 2019 transfer window. For Manchester United and their fans, it has been a disappointing month or so since Aaron Wan-Bissaka signed on the dotted line.

A top-class centre-half is an even bigger need now following the serious knee injury suffered by Eric Bailly. The name that keeps appearing on the back pages is Harry Maguire, though nothing has come of those stories as of yet…

Well last night, credible journalist Sam Pilger took to Twitter to give his take on the situation. He states that United’s move for the 26-year-old centre-back will ‘drag on’; though the transfer is still ‘highly likely’ to happen.

Furthermore, Pilger states that Maguire is ‘desperate’ to seal the move, while Leicester should ‘blink’ at the fee being offered by United (which is thought to be around £80million).

That would be a world-record fee for a defender, eclipsing the £75million paid by Liverpool to sign Virgil van Dijk. It truly is incredible that Leicester are yet to accept the deal, although it does feel like they’re constantly changing the goalposts in terms of their demands.

Hopefully, a deal will be done soon. I would have loved to see Maguire holding that red shirt aloft before tomorrow’s final pre-season friendly against AC Milan in order to give the Englishman a game to settle into his new surroundings, but obviously, that wasn’t to be…
