Man United move ‘not that attractive’ to Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie de Jong does not want to move to Man United…

As we all know, Manchester United have spent the summer pushing hard to sign Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutchman has been the Red Devils’ top target as soon as Erik ten Hag was appointed as manager. One week, it looks as though United are a good bet to sign De Jong, the next, there’s no chance of a move happening.

Well, United could’ve just had the final nail placed in that proverbial coffin in their pursuit of De Jong…

It’s the usually reliable The Athletic with the information, as they write a full article detailing the whole De Jong saga.

They claim that United still want to buy De Jong, while Barca’s plan remains to move on from the former Ajax midfielder.

The problem lies with De Jong himself. He still doesn’t want to move to the Reds this summer.

Apparently, a United move is viewed as ‘not that attractive’ for the midfielder, with the player unlikely to want to play in the Europa League – with no guarantee when Champions League football will return to Old Trafford.

On top of that, Ten Hag’s relationship with the top United target was described as not ‘particularly special’ when the pair were together at Ajax. Honestly, I was counting on this relationship being the pivotal factor in United acquiring De Jong. Sadly, that plan is out of the window…

At this point, it’s time to move on. Not signing De Jong has been an absolute disaster and no more time can be spent on chasing a player who doesn’t want to move to Old Trafford.

Youri Tielemans or Ruben Neves, anyone…?

Is it now time for Man United to move on to other targets? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
