Man United move to sign Adrien Rabiot collapses

Man United’s proposed move for Adrien Rabiot is now off.

Manchester United just cannot catch a break during this transfer window. The Old Trafford club have spent plenty of time chasing transfer targets, the main one being Frenkie de Jong.

However, Erik ten Hag has only been delivered three signings so far, when it can be argued that probably more than ten were needed in an ideal scenario.

Adrien Rabiot looked like a sure-fire acquisition not too long ago, as talks between the club and player were progressing nicely.

However, that deal will now no longer happen. Apparently, the player wanted an ‘obscene’ salary to make the move to United. The Reds were unprepared to meet those demands, so the club’s move to sign the 27-year-old has now collapsed. That’s according to the Manchester Evening News.

Rabiot’s mother, Veronique, negotiated on behalf of her son and she was always viewed as the stumbling block in the discussions due to her ‘fearsome’ reputation.

United director, John Murtough, flew into Turin last week to try and close a deal following an agreement on transfer fee with Juventus. However, this move will now no longer happen.

With the transfer deadline now looming, this failure only leaves the Reds with further problems to address. Once again, more time has been wasted, with the club being left with egg on their face.

For what it’s worth, I never thought Rabiot was going to be a long term answer to United’s midfield problems. It always felt like a quick fix so I’m not too disappointed this move has fallen through.

However, there is an obvious need for at least one or two new midfielders to be signed. I dread to think who is next on the list of possible options…
