Man United move to sign Andre Onana now at an ‘advanced stage’

Man United seem to be closing in on the signing of Inter Milan goalkeeper, Andre Onana.

Letting David de Gea leave Manchester United is undoubtedly a bold move. The Old Trafford club have been indebted to the Spaniard for a decade-plus.

Now 32, De Gea’s failure to adapt to the Erik ten Hag possession-first style is what cost him his place at the club. The ruthlessness with which the Dutchman operates was plain for all to see.

The job at hand now is to find a replacement. Andre Onana appears to be the man that the Red Devils truly want, though he will not come cheaply.

There’s good news in that regard from the Daily Mail. According to their report, the United move to sign the 27-year-old is now at an ‘advanced stage’.

It is understood that a deal worth around £43m, plus add-ons, is set to be completed this week once personal terms are agreed.

To further add to the information, sources close to the situation do not anticipate any problems, with Ten Hag set for a reunion with Onana, whom he worked with at Ajax.

Onana is set to become United’s number one, with Tom Heaton looking like the back-up, at least for the next twelve months.

Albeit an expensive deal is in the works, this is an absolutely necessary signing. United are desperate for a goalie who can play out from the back and Onana is among the best in the world in that regard. He’s also better at commanding his penalty area, which has been another bad habit that De Gea has often displayed.

Thankfully, it looks like a deal is close, meaning Onana should be given at least a few games during pre-season.
