Man United ‘moving most’ to sign Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona: report

Man United are once again being linked with a move for FC Barcelona winger, Ousmane Dembele.

Last week, we covered a story from Sport, who claimed that Manchester United had increased their interest in Ousmane Dembele.

The Frenchman, who was somewhat close to an Old Trafford move last summer, is seemingly one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top targets. Over the last 24hours, the Red Devils are being linked with Dembele again.

The story comes from Mundo Deportivo (Monday print edition), translated via Sport Witness. It’s claimed that Manchester United are ‘moving the most’ to sign the talented 23-year-old, along with Juventus.

With a contract winding down, FC Barcelona have a decision to make. At this season’s end, Dembele will have just twelve months left on his current deal. Would the Nou Camp outfit really risk letting a big-money signing leave for nothing…?

Mundo Deportivo state that United actually had contact with Dembele’s agent in the winter, with the relationship said to be ‘fluid’. That could mean a deal could be relatively easy to negotiate from the agents’ standpoint.

As we all know, the Reds are in the market for an attacker and they’ve been following Dembele’s progress since his Borussia Dortmund days. He’s a player they obviously hold a longstanding interest in and they should know the strengths (and weaknesses) of his game inside-out.

Check out the Mundo Deportivo spread on the story here:

I like Dembele, I think he’s a great footballer. However, this move would be a massive risk. His injury record is sketchy at best and that cannot be ignored.

The last problem United need is another injury-prone attacker, particularly when they’re so dependent on finding someone who can guarantee starts (and goal contributions) from out on the right.

Even at a bargain price, Dembele is probably too big of a gamble to take. The Premier League is just so physical and every time Dembele would go into a crunching tackle, you’d always be fearing the worst.
