Man United name 21-strong squad for game vs Atletico Madrid

Man United manager Erik ten Hag has named his squad for the penultimate friendly game of the pre-season.

The new Manchester United gaffer has many tough decisions to make this weekend. The club play two friendly matches, one on Saturday and another on Sunday. That means he’s had to split up the squad as he sees fit.

Everything suggested that today’s game in Oslo would be the stronger one – and that’s exactly how it’s panned out with several first-team regulars earning their places in this particular side.

The club confirmed a 21-man travelling party. I’m delighted to confirm that the two new boys, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez, are in this team. Therefore, it’s a pretty good bet we get to see both of these guys in action at some point.

Eriksen and Martinez did play in a behind-closed-doors friendly earlier this week, so they’ll at least have some minutes in the tank. No doubt partaking here will further bring them up to speed.

For the rest of the squad, it’s about fine-tuning their games and further adjusting to Ten Hag’s system as we gear up towards the big season opener next week.

I’m eager to see more of Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial. It’s also nice to see Ethan Laird and James Garner in this particular squad.

Hopefully, the lads can check out with a victory and go into the season with confidence. Before we supporters get to do it all again tomorrow, in front of a packed (and somewhat different) Old Trafford!

Check out the squad in full here:

De Gea, Heaton, Kovar, Dalot, Laird, Lindelof, Maguire, Malacia, Martinez, Telles, Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Fred, Garner, McTominay, Pellistri, Van de Beek, Elanga, Martial, Rashford, Sancho.
