Manchester United have named their 22-man squad for their away game against Real Sociedad.
After a couple of months away from continental action, it all starts up again tomorrow. Our Red Devils take on Real Sociedad over two legs, with a spot in the last sixteen of the Europa League at stake.
Ties like these are never easy. It’s going to be a real close-knit call between two pretty good teams. Now we know the travelling party who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will call upon.
In amongst it was two talented United youngsters, who could be in line for their first-team debuts if called upon; Shola Shoretire and Amad Diallo. The pair were both in first-team training over the last couple of days. Which now suddenly makes much more sense.
Confirmed squad in full (via ManUtd.com):
De Gea, Henderson, Grant; Bailly, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, Telles, Tuanzebe, Wan-Bissaka, Williams; Amad, Fernandes, Fred, James, Mata, Matic, McTominay, Shoretire; Greenwood, Martial, Rashford.
Whether Diallo or Shoretire will play is an entirely different matter, but injuries in their positions definitely provide them with better chances than they would have if everyone was fit.
Going into these sort of games, you do expect some rotation. I’d expect Solskjaer to continue that mantra here, though possibly keeping a main core of the first-team XI together.
Hopefully, whatever team the gaffer puts out will be on their A-game from minute one. Although it’s an 180-minute tie, you simply cannot afford to start slowly.
It’ll also be nice to see how Adnan Januzaj is getting on. Not too long ago, he was the it-kid at Old Trafford. Hopefully, he has a couple of good games against us – but not too good of course!
