Man United are leading the chase to sign young centre-back, Gonçalo Inacio.
There are many gaping holes within this Manchester United starting line-up right now, though I’d argue the need to sign a centre-half is still close to the top of the Red Devils’ priorities.
Despite massive amounts of money being spent on new defenders for what feels like every summer, the Old Trafford club are still struggling in that portion of the field.
Over the last 24 hours, a new name has been linked with a potential switch to the Theatre of Dreams in that position; Gonçalo Inacio.
The story comes from A Bola in Portugal, who state that United are ‘in the lead’ to sign the 20-year-old centre-half who currently plies his trade for Braga.
According to the claim, the rumours linking Inacio with a United switch are becoming ‘more and more consistent’, though the Reds won’t have it all their own way with Newcastle United also keen.
United apparently ‘have a plan’ to convince Braga into parting with one of their prized assets, though Inacio’s price seems pretty set due to a release clause within his contract.
That fee stands at £38.5m, though the initial up front cost could be cheaper, with various performance-related add-one and clauses potentially taking the deal to around that figure.
A Bola state that Inacio ‘fulfils all the requirements’ the Red Devils demand from their new centre-back signing. Presumably in terms of style of play, age, price range and overall fit.
There’s no doubt that United need to freshen things up back there. Personally, I’d like to see someone with a little more experience brought in, though this club does have an excellent track record when it comes to buying players from Portugal.
