Man United are front runners in the pursuit of West Ham United midfielder, Declan Rice.
While a new manager has to be the number one priority for Manchester United Football Club, the Old Trafford outfit will also be looking at bolstering the playing squad.
It goes without saying, no player signings will be sanctioned until the new manager is in charge. Obviously, it could turn out to be a waste of money if those additions are made before we even know whether the manager even wanted to work with them.
One name that has been consistently linked with a move to United is Declan Rice. Now, the Daily Mail have provided a pretty big update on that front.
Apparently, United have now been named as the ‘leading suitors’ to sign the 23-year-old. However, he will not come cheap, with West Ham demanding a huge record transfer fee of £150million to sell the Englishman.
Understandably, the London club have fought a losing battle as they look to tie Rice down to new terms. However, they’ve now accepted they’ll have to cash in on the Three Lions star this summer.
United are looking to replace Paul Pogba, who will be departing on a free transfer in a few months’ time. Chelsea were also in the hunt to acquire Rice, but after Government sanctions were placed on Roman Abramovich, United have moved to the front of the queue.
What’s interesting here is that the Daily Mail state that Rice is interested in a Reds move, but it remains to be seen whether the club will stretch to £150m to sign the 23-year-old.
Rice currently has two years left on his deal, while West Ham hold the option to extend that by a further year if they so choose. Meaning they’re not under direct pressure to cash in this summer.
