Manchester United are not in talks to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender, Toby Alderweireld. That’s according to football.london.
The 29-year-old, who’s deal expires in twelve months time, is yet to commit to a long-term contract at White Hart Lane; meaning that Spurs will have to sell him this summer, rather than risking losing him on a free transfer.
Jose Mourinho’s men were recently installed as favourites to land Alderweireld this summer, but it seems as though at this point in time, negotiations haven’t even started.
Personally, I think we should be all over Alderweireld like a rash; he’s the perfect player for United at this point in time – for several reasons.
He’s experienced, Premier League proven, an on-field leader and an extremely intelligent footballer. Our defence gave away far too many cheap goals last term, and no doubt bringing in the Belgium international would immediately improve the overall outlook of our squad on the whole.
Spurs are always notoriously tough negotiators, but they’re somewhat powerless in this situation. United should offer them a reasonable take-it-or-leave-it offer to try and force their hand. They’ll have to cave in and sell him eventually…
