Man United not willing to offer Nemanja Matic a new Reds contract: report

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Manchester United overhaul has well and truly begun.

The Baby Faced Assassin has made some astute signings during his short tenure at Old Trafford, though there is still much work ahead in terms of both incoming and outgoing players.

Amongst those who could well be on his way out is Nemanja Matic. The story comes from the Daily Express, who state that the 31-year-old Serb is ‘facing the axe’ at Old Trafford, with the Reds not willing to offer the player a new contract when his current deal expires in 2020.

Under Jose Mourinho, Matic was a mainstay in the United side, though when Solskjaer took charge, Scott McTominay was the favoured choice in the holding-midfield role. Credit to the Baby Faced Assassin because it’s a choice that is certainly paying dividends.

That’s not to say Matic has nothing left to offer at this stage in his career. In fact, I actually think he’d be a pretty good player for most. Interest in the Serb is still high according to The Express, with Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid keen, though Spurs and the aforementioned Mourinho are also exploring the possibility.

If United can move Matic on in January for some sort of transfer fee, they should probably do it. Failing that, the veteran looks all set to move away from the AON Training Complex on a free transfer next summer…
