Manchester United have always been at their best when they promote youngsters and give academy graduates a chance.

At this time, though, they could be about to lose one of their brightest prospects… According to Tuttomercatoweb, translated by the Daily Mirror, United have offered 19-year-old Luca Ercolani a new two-year deal to stop him walking out of Old Trafford for free.

Ercolani was a vital member in United’s UEFA Youth League team last season, and has been a regular for the U23s over the same period. However, the Reds could lose the Italian for nothing when his contract expires at June’s end.

United want to keep Ercolani but he’s attracting ‘substantial’ interest from his homeland, with Italian sides SPAL, Empoli, Ascoli and Bari all keen on signing the teenager. All can offer a much faster pathway to regular first-team football, too…

I think it’s telling that young talents aren’t willing to commit their futures to United as quickly as they would have done in the past. Ercolani obviously has reservations about the club right now, and although there’s a two-year deal on the table – perhaps it’s too little too late.

The Mirror also weigh in on the Romelu Lukaku situation, by adding that the striker is ‘pushing’ for a move to Inter Milan…
