Man United offered chance to sign Edin Dzeko this month: report

In today’s weird transfer story, Man United were apparently offered the chance to sign Edin Dzeko from AS Roma…

As we all know, Odion Ighalo has departed Manchester United. Credit where it’s due, the Nigerian did an excellent job and wore that badge on his chest with pride.

Well, if United were considering replacing Ighalo, a ready-made answer may well have been placed directly into their laps in the form of Edin Dzeko.

According to a combination of both Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta dello Sport, translated by Sport Witness, United were offered the chance to sign the prolific 34-year-old this month.

Apparently, Dzeko was offered to both Manchester clubs (including City), though it’s claimed that the Bosnia and Herzegovina international didn’t receive positive signs from the Old Trafford club…

Check out the Italian media coverage on the story from GdS and CdS here:

After falling out with the AS Roma manager, Dzeko would probably consider any destination right now, though despite West Ham interest, the veteran would turn down David Moyes’ side.

As for United, this one felt like a non-starter before I’d even read the story. The reason Ighalo’s deal ended was that he wasn’t getting minutes. Why would that be any different for Dzeko? Particularly when you factor in his City links…

At this stage, it still feels like United have other areas that they should be prirotising. I look at right-wing, centre-half and defensive-midfield as three glaring holes within this squad. Dzeko probably wouldn’t be the worst option on a free transfer as it’d be a low-risk deal, though I don’t see any reason why we’d disrupt that dressing room for a third or fourth choice striker…
