Man United on alert as star centre-back yet to agree new contract with current club: report

Manchester United have been put on red alert, as transfer target, Milan Skriniar, is yet to agree a new contract with Inter Milan.

That’s according to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, per the Daily Mail. Although the Slovakian is tied down to a relatively long-term deal, Inter are doing their utmost to ward off potential suitors by getting him to put pen to paper once again; presumably with a much heftier wage.

Age just 23, Skriniar has emerged as one of the best centre-halves in European football. He’s quick, great in the air, a brilliant reader of the game and tough in the tackle. In my opinion, he’d be perfect for the physically brutal English game.

My only major concern would be his age. We’ve had problems with Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly, both of whom are young and still learning. It may take Skriniar a fair amount of time to adapt and adjust – although talent-wise, he’s head and shoulders above anything we have on the books right now.

Another problem is that there will be ample competition for his signature, as the report also identifies Manchester City as another potential suitor. What we have over them is the fact that we’re after a first-choice centre-back, whereas they’re pretty stacked in that area of the field.
