Man United on alert, world-class full-back at heart of contract dispute: report

Manchester United are on alert, with FC Barcelona and Jordi Alba at the heart of a contract dispute.

That’s according to Sport, per the Daily Mirror. The 29-year-old is growing in frustrations following the stand-off between player and club, which could lead to the Spaniard heading to the Premier League.

Alba has been amongst the best full-backs in world football over the last few years, whereas United have struggled in that area of the field. Bringing in the Barcelona man would be a huge coup if Jose Mourinho could pull it off.

No doubt there would be some pretty hefty competition for his signature, though, with Sport also suggesting that Chelsea are interested. However, I’d have my doubts about that move happening – purely because Marcos Alonso is arguably the standout left-back in the Premier League as it is.

I’m sure Barcelona would want to keep ahold of Alba, but if they do let him go, it seems a good bet that he will be headed to England as there is no way they’d let him stay in Spain.

He is approaching his thirties, though, which has to be a concern. We all know that Mourinho loves the experienced, ready-made footballer, but he’d only be good for three seasons at the very most.
