Man United are now contemplating making Mauricio Pochettino their next manager, after his surprise Chelsea sacking.
Manchester United could look to make a managerial change this coming summer. You look at the way the Red Devils have performed this term and it’s hard not to feel underwhelmed. Simply put, it has not been good enough this term.
Erik ten Hag must face up to the brunt of the blame. Tactically, United have looked lost, albeit amid an injury crisis. Star players like Marcus Rashford are not performing. It all falls at the doorstep of the manager.
With INEOS now in charge of footballing operations, there’s a chance the Red Devils want to move in a different direction. Sir Jim Ratcliffe may have his own man in mind, while yesterday, another name could have found himself on the list; Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentine has now been let go by Chelsea despite their positive end to the season, with Pochettino now looking for a new job…
According to The Independent, United are now on ‘high alert’ as the 52-year-old becomes available, with Bayern Munich also said to be keen on Poch’s services.
The manager is now said to be on the Reds’ ‘radar’, with Poch representing arguably the most ready-made coach who is currently on the market.
Poch’s time in England has been mixed. He was excellent at Spurs and Southampton, though the Chelsea job tainted his reputation a bit. However, that club is not build like Spurs and Southampton, who are both based on spending limited amounts while using the youth system. United definitely fall more in line with that mantra.
Is Poch good enough, though? I’m not sure. It feels like a sideways step, though if it breathes new life into the squad, then maybe it is the correct decision to make…
