Man United are now thinking about possibly moving away from Donny van de Beek.
Well, I guess this transfer rumour was inevitable, but there’s now talk of Manchester United sanctioning a Donny van de Beek sale – less than one year after signing him.
The story comes from 90min.com, who state that United are ‘open’ to parting ways with the 23-year-old, following his ‘underwhelming’ displays.
Apparently, United sources are questioning whether Van de Beek has a future at the club, though a concern for the Old Trafford outfit is that they’d be forced to swallow a hefty loss in terms of the transfer fee. Obviously, given the global pandemic, effectively throwing money down the drain is less than ideal.
It’s claimed United would be ‘open’ to use Van de Beek in some sort of swap deal to land key targets, with names like Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland once again mentioned.
90min.com also stress that United aren’t desperate for the sale and at this time they’re just considering all their options – which is a smart business decision.
Is it in Donny’s best interests…?
Quite possibly. Van de Beek doesn’t look like someone who slots seamlessly into this United team. Sure, he’s a top talent who looked like a real player while donning out for Ajax. However, does his style suit Premier League football? I’m not so sure.
It also doesn’t help when it seems like a straight race between he and Bruno Fernandes to start. Right now, that decision is an easy one for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make, leaving Van de Beek out in the cold.
United haven’t lost hope in Van de Beek, it’s just that he could be moved on if the right deal comes along. Right now, I’d be surprised if the Dutchman is sold this summer – but let’s wait and see how he finishes his debut season at Old Trafford…
