Man United open to recalling Ethan Laird in January

Man United could recall Ethan Laird back from his Championship loan spell – among others.

Slowly but surely, this squad is being transformed into one that fits Erik ten Hag’s style of play. It goes without saying, this will take time.

The Dutchman already has his favourites. It’s clear in regards to those who don’t feature in his plans, too.

Cristiano Ronaldo is a thing of the past. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is another who has rarely featured under Ten Hag. He could well be out of the door in January.

If Wan-Bissaka does depart, that’d leave United extremely thin in the right-back area. As a result, Ethan Laird could be brought back to Old Trafford.

It’s the Manchester Evening News with the claim, who also believe both Hannibal Mejbri and Amad could find themselves back at Old Trafford due to having recall options in their contracts. We’ve chosen to focus on Laird as he looks the most likely player to potentially return.

Apparently, United are ‘open’ to recalling the 21-year-old (and the others), back from their loan spells in January amid possible squad adjustments.

Laird is currently having a great season for Queens Park Rangers in the Championship.

The young man actually played more minutes than Wan-Bissaka during the tour, though Ten Hag wanted Laird to go out on loan to play regularly.

United are ‘mindful’ of facilitating a player’s development, though needs for the first-team will take precedence if that situation arises.

I’m a huge Laird fan. I fully believe he’s a better fit for this system than Wan-Bissaka is. I’d be all for this move happening to be honest.

It all depends on how many minutes Ten Hag thinks he can give Laird in the second half of the season.
