Man United could cash in on Antony this summer, with the Red Devils said to be entertaining the idea of a sale.
Manchester United Football Club are gearing towards their first transfer window under INEOS’ ownership. Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be hoping to hit the ground running, while sending out a positive message to the Old Trafford faithful, by having a positive summer.
Not only will players inevitably be signed in order to strengthen the dressing room, others will leave by way of balancing the books, while raising extra funds for the manager to spend.
One man whose future is certainly up in the air is Antony. The man from Brazil had a decent debut campaign, though he’s seriously struggled this time around. Off-field issues haven’t helped the former Ajax man.
Now, according to The Telegraph, United are said to be ‘open’ to selling the 24-year-old this summer. Although United are not actively forcing Antony out of the door, the Red Devils will entertain offers for the Brazil international.
However, an ongoing legal issue could scupper any potential move. Greater Manchester Police and Brazilian authorities are both investigating allegations made by a former girlfriend of Antony’s at this time. As a result, possible buying clubs may not be keen on bringing in the attacker.
It also depends on the future of Erik ten Hag, who pushed hard to sign Antony in an £80m+ deal back in the summer of 2022. If the Dutchman were to lose his job, you’d imagine it’d be curtains on Antony’s Reds career also.
Antony is talented, though nowhere close to an £80m player. He’s just too one-footed for my liking, while he feels like a one-trick pony. You’d have expected to see some sort of development from the attacker since making the move to Manchester, though for whatever reason that hasn’t happened.
