Man United ‘open’ to selling Cristiano Ronaldo this summer

Cristiano Ronaldo may have already played his last game for Man United.

Manchester United are yet to confirm a signing this summer, though Erik ten Hag’s goal has been clear; surround himself with familiarity.

I’m positive new additions will come, as United continue to clear out players who A), don’t want to be here and B), aren’t good enough.

One man I assumed would fulfil the second year of his contract in 2022/23 is Cristiano Ronaldo. Though rumours have been swirling over the last 24 hours, with the Greatest of All Time wanting to leave the club.

ESPN have provided the latest information on Ronaldo, claiming it’s ‘increasingly likely’ the star has already made his final United appearance. That’s despite the club being adamant that Ronaldo will stay beyond this transfer window.

Sources have told ESPN that United are ‘open’ to the sale of Ronaldo this summer, but only if a club outside of the Premier League are willing to take on his £500,000-a-week wages.

As things stand, there is ‘tentative’ interest from both Bayern Munich and Napoli, while Chelsea are also showing interest. I do wonder whether any of these sides would be able to match Ronaldo’s current weekly pay-packet, mind.

With United set to jet off for pre-season tour this Friday, the club have to act quickly and figure out what’s happening. Obviously, if Ronaldo is sold, the need to sign a striker to replace the 37-year-old is a huge one.

That’s where disappointment sets in. Most of the big names have already switched clubs and United could’ve been in the running to sign those players if Ronaldo had made his feelings known earlier.

Honestly, this one feels like it could go either way as things stand.
