Man United ‘open’ to selling Eric Bailly

Man United are entertaining the idea of parting with Eric Bailly this summer.

Although several players have already left Manchester United this summer, you get the feeling that the clear out is far from complete.

Let’s be honest, the current Red Devils squad is jam-packed with players who aren’t good enough.

One player who has the talent but just simply cannot stay healthy is Eric Bailly. The Ivory Coast international started life in Manchester superbly, though those performances quickly fizzled out.

A few days ago, we covered a claim which suggested Bailly was deemed surplus to requirements. So-much-so United would accept a reduced price to let the Ivorian leave.

Now, Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth has an update for us in regards to Bailly’s future.

Apparently, United are now ‘open’ to letting the 28-year-old leave, though the club would prefer a straight sale. They’d also consider some sort of loan deal with an obligation to buy.

The news comes amid interest from recently-promoted Fulham, who have approached United about Bailly’s availability. The London-based club want a loan with an option to buy outright though, rather than an obligation.

It’d be pretty remarkable if United could somehow twist Fulham’s arm into either a permanent sale this summer or some sort of obligation to buy.

After all, Bailly hasn’t shown anything close to the performance levels you need to make it at United. Perhaps a change of scenery is exactly what’s required.

It’s a pretty sad situation because his debut season was pretty special. It’s worth noting that it took place in Jose Mourinho’s defensive-minded system, though.

You get the feeling that a Bailly transfer is in the best interests of everyone. At best, the ex-Villarreal man is fourth choice in the centre-half pecking order. Simply put, he’s not going to be happy with that amount of playing time.
