Man United open to ‘sensational’ Lingard return: report

There could yet be a way back at Manchester United for Jesse Lingard…

Manchester United Football Club have always had a knack for developing young talents and giving them their first-team opportunities.

Jesse Lingard came onto the scene a little later than most but his impact at Old Trafford will be forever etched in stone. It was his extra-time wonder-strike that gave United their first trophy in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Sadly for Lingard, things went a little south under Jose Mourinho and then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, there may be a way back for the Englishman. He’d end up on loan at West Ham.

The story comes from The Sun, who state that United are open to a ‘sensational’ return for the 28-year-old, who is playing some brilliant football under David Moyes at the moment.

Apparently, an Old Trafford comeback could include a new contract for Lingard, with Solskajer ‘hugely impressed’ with the performances from the Warrington-born-winger.

It’s stated that Solskjaer is a long-time fan of Lingard’s despite freezing him out, and the Baby Faced Assassin is going to give some thought to bringing Lingard back to United for another chance.

The Sun add that West Ham would, obviously, like to sign Lingard on a permanent deal, while they value the player at £15-20m. United would want more than that if a deal is to be struck.

Without wanting to be a prisoner of the moment, this is the best form I’ve seen Lingard in for years. Perhaps all he needed was a change of scenery and credit to West Ham for capitalising on that.

Don’t forget, though, at the time of his January exit, we fans were begging for him to leave as the performances were bad. Whose to say Lingard is going to come back and play well again?

Taking sentiment out of it, I’d probably urge United to cash in while they can. If Lingard is to return to United, he’d be back to being a fringe player which is good for nobody. Let him leave for good and continue to impress for West Ham as it feels like the right decision to make for all involved.
