Manchester United have a real defensive crisis on their hands at the moment. The club has struggled to keep clean sheets this term, which has led to the Red Devils dropping far too many points; particularly at home.
With Victor Lindelof, who has probably been our best defender recently, going down with injury, that paved an opening for Phil Jones. The Englishman actually played alright against Young Boys last night, but he has bigger problems to worry about…
According to a report from The Metro, the 26-year-old is set for showdown talks with the club to discuss his long-term Old Trafford future. Apparently, Jose Mourinho is a keen admirer of Jones’, but injuries have always been an issue with the centre-back throughout his career.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t look like changing anytime soon. It has been the story of his career. So often has Jones had one excellent spell, then followed it up with a lengthy time sidelined with serious injury, before coming back looking half the player he was.
Would I keep him around? Personally, no. I reckon it’s time to move on and give someone else a go. I’d much prefer to see his minutes given to a Timothy Fosu-Mensah or an Axel Tuanzebe, but that doesn’t look like happening any time soon.
