Man United will not be signing Erling Haaland this summer…
Cast your mind back a couple of years ago when it looked like Manchester United were in an excellent spot to sign Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian connection with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer coupled with the lure of playing for the Old Trafford club looked like it would be enough to seal the deal. Sadly, though, the prolific striker would choose Borussia Dortmund. It’s fair to say that was a smart choice.
Haaland has gone from strength to strength over in the Bundesliga, scoring goals galore and really showing the world that he’s arguably the best striker on the planet.
With a release clause in his contract that’s set to come into play this summer, United, understandably, have been looking to convince Haaland to choose them this time around.
Sadly, though, that doesn’t look like it’s happening. United have been dealt a blow on that front, with the story coming from ESPN. They claim that the Reds are out of the race to sign the top-class 21-year-old this summer.
Apparently, United have found out that Haaland favours a move to Real Madrid, with the striker set to depart BVB in the summer transfer window due to the aforementioned release clause within his contract.
With Edinson Cavani looking likely to leave and Cristiano Ronaldo rapidly approaching the age of 37, United’s need to sign a top-class striker will only increase over the next twelve months.
It doesn’t look like Haaland will be that guy, with United now focusing on other options to ‘solve their search for a proven goal scorer’.
Where that search will lead them, I’m not sure? Perhaps the answer is already at Old Trafford in the form of Mason Greenwood…
