Man United signed the young winger on transfer deadline day, now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has outlined the future plans for Facundo Pellistri.
Pellistri was acquired from Penarol in Uruguay and he certainly looks up for the challenge. However, he’s still only eighteen, with a bright future ahead of him.
After being handed the number 28 jersey, I personally thought that Pellistri had a real chance at seeing first-team action at some point this term.
Well, in his pre-match press conference ahead of Newcastle United away, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has pumped the brakes on Pellistri’s development.
Although the Baby Faced assassin labelled him as ‘very exciting’, the United manager has outlined the plans, stating that Pellistri is one for the future as opposed to being ready for the here and now.
Check out what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had to say here:
“Facundo has been in training with us two days, very exciting, young, enthusiastic player with some attributes we don’t have.” Solskjaer told reporters, including the Manchester Evening News. “He’s maybe one for the future, maybe not for just now, still only 18.”
Although we’ll all have to wait to see Pellistri in action, he still must be feeling good. Where better to learn your trade than Manchester United? Under a manager who will give youth an opportunity.
Pellistri is a relative unknown to everyone at this point. Sure, he’s had two days training, but he’ll need time to get up to speed. Given that, he’ll be looking to follow in Mason Greenwood’s footsteps. Looking to carve out a first-team chance over the next year or so.
At the very least, I’d fully expect to see Pellistri feature on pre-season tour next summer. Hopefully, though, we’ll get a glimpse of him before then.
For now, it’s about Pellistri working hard in training and proving his worth to his coaching staff. No doubt he’s just relishing every second of his football at this point!
