Man United outline their plans for James Garner ahead of 2020/21 season: report

Manchester United’s youth production line continues to deliver the goods, much to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s benefit.

Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay and Brandon Williams are all integral members of the first-team squad, while Ethan Laird may well be next in line for his big opportunity.

Another name we’ve been harping on about here at Old Trafford Faithful is James Garner. After being used sparingly on pre-season tour, while barely being mentioned throughout the 2019/20 term, it seems as though United have finally outlined their plans for the midfielder.

The story comes from The Athletic, who, in a roundabout way, hint that United are considering loaning out the talented 19-year-old…

Apparently, United feel it is ‘important’ for Garner to play under a manager with the ‘same principles’ as Solskjaer if the Englishman is allowed to leave on a short-term basis.

However, Laurie Whitwell stresses that a decision would have to be made early, so Garner would be able to be with his new team for the start of pre-season.

Personally, I think Garner is ready to be given first-team exposure at Old Trafford, though the signing of Bruno Fernandes immediately makes that more difficult for the Birkenhead-born-midfielder.

The question is, does Garner stick around and settle for a handful of appearances in the cups? Or move elsewhere for a season and (hopefully) play week-in-week-out.

I’m a big fan and I think he could break into this United squad over the next twelve months, though I get the impression Solskjaer isn’t as sold – hence why a decision about loaning him out has to be made.

Either way, it’s about time Garner is no longer the forgotten man at Old Trafford because he’s immensely gifted. Whichever way this transfer plays out, I’m tipping the young man to impress.
