Man United are seemingly ready to firm up their interest in Christopher Nkunku with an official bid.
Erik ten Hag has already started work at Manchester United, purely because the Red Devils are in such a mess, that he has to get a head start on the competition ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
There are several areas of the field that need major work. None more so than centre-half and in attack. Outside of Cristiano Ronaldo, this side seriously struggled for goals this season and that has to change.
A name that has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford switch is Christopher Nkunku. It’s a transfer that definitely makes sense for all involved, too.
Over the last 24 hours or so, we’ve been given a positive update in the brewing saga and it comes from journalist Ekrem Konur.
He took to Twitter yesterday morning to claim that United ‘are planning’ to make a £60million offer to bring in the RB Leipzig attacker. Presumably this summer.
The prolific 24-year-old has scored a mightily impressive 35 goals across all competitions, in just 52 games. For a man who is by no means the finished article, that’s an incredible tally.
What’s most attractive about Nkunku is his versatility. The Frenchman is someone who can slot in the side in many different positions, while still being a major threat.
With the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Elanga and Jadon Sancho all showing inconsistency within their games, it makes sense for United to bring in a proven goal-scorer like Nkunku.
Sure, the 24-year-old will need some time to adapt and adjust, while I imagine United will not be the only party interested in bringing him in this summer. A lack of Champions League football could cost us in that regard.
I’d also be surprised if an initial £60m offer is enough to get this deal done. Leipzig are under no pressure to sell their star if they don’t want to this summer. So that price could easily be driven up pretty significantly before they’re even tempted to let Nkunku go.
