David de Gea – Made one big save in the second half to ensure his side remained in the lead. Stepped up when needed. 6/10
Diogo Dalot – Had an effective game on both sides of the ball. Looked sharp in the first 45 in particular. 6/10
Raphael Varane – Rarely troubled by Toney and Mbuemo. Was always in control of the defensive situation. 7/10
Lisandro Martinez – Continued to play aggressively defensively and always on the front foot. Solid. 6/10
Luke Shaw – Made a great start to the game, though picked up an early injury and had to be subbed off. 6/10
Scott McTominay – Arguably United’s Man of the Match. Covered every blade of grass for the cause and was effective on both sides of the ball. 8/10
Bruno Fernandes – Deployed in a deeper role and it seemed to suit him. He was at the heart of everything good about our play. 7/10
Marcel Sabitzer – Steady enough in a more advanced position. Played his part in the sole goal of the game. 6/10
Antony – Always positive and looking to move the ball forward. Had a couple of opportunities to score. 6/10
Jadon Sancho – Dazzled at times with his intelligence and skill. Did okay. 6/10
Marcus Rashford – Started as the main striker and played well. Scored the all-important goal to give United the early breakthrough. 7/10
Subs:
Tyrell Malacia – Brought on early and picked up where Shaw left off. Sharp. 7/10
Fred – Gave Brentford something different to think about due to his energy.
Anthony Martial – Didn’t really get into it.
Victor Lindelof – Helped see the game out.
